Beauty Tips Celebrity makeup artist Gita Bass, who creates smoldering eye makeup for actresses Eliza Dushku and Mila Kunis, offers her tips for pulling off the season’s top shadow styles:
80s brights: “Choose shadows that pop, like turquoise, hot pink or emerald green,” Bass suggests. First, line your upper lashes with an eye pencil in a vivid hue and blend up toward the crease. Top with an eyeshadow in the same color to intensify the look, and finish with black mascara for extra definition.
Rich earth tones: For a subdued-but-chic alternative, look for deep, velvety shadows in moss green, rich brown, slate gray and gold. “Choose your shade and apply on the upper lids from the lash line to the crease, as well as under the lower lash line,” Bass says. “Try using a damp brush to deposit extra rich color. Choose warm, soft tones for the rest of your face for an overall luscious fall look.”
Bold, smoky shadows: “Blend shades of brown or taupe with gunmetal gray from the lash line to the crease and below the lower lashes,” says Bass. For a softer look, skip eyeliner entirely; for added intensity, try lining the inside of the lower lash line with a freshly-sharpened eye pencil.
